Becoming A Police Officer Just Became EasierAs many law enforcement candidates can vouch for, taking the police entrance exam can be a stressful and highly competitive experience. I decided to research some preparation web sites and purchased several E-books on the topic to get a better understanding of what it takes to become a police officer. One thing that I quickly realized was that there were plenty of sources of material available for anyone seriously interested in a future in law enforcement. According to Augie Caamano, owner of PoliceQuiz.com, "Becoming a police officer has become extremely difficult due to the number of applicants applying these days." Caamano also stated "I try to assist these candidates by walking them through written test step by step. My online practice exams, as well as the strategies provide the candidates with an edge that they would not have had before the course." For a modest fee of $27 prospective candidates can take several practice exams, and read online tutorials which include various test-taking techniques for most parts of the exam. Caamano states that he helps candidates from all over the country and all size departments in preparing for the police officer entrance exam. "It doesn't matter if your testing for a 1000 member department or 10. Most test all cover the same topics which include reading comprehension, math, situational judgment, visualization based questions, and memory retention." I also found several e-books which can be purchased online, all of which state that they can increase your chances of getting a better score on the exam. I found several at Amazon.com by simply typing in "police test" in their search engine. Prices ranged from $17 to $35. They too appear to have practice exams and tips for improving your score, although some of the reading appears to be quite lengthy and dry. PoliceQuiz.com - http://www.policequiz.com

Sweeping Up Worms With the opening of a new venture and numerous reporters arriving in an hour, it felt like one of those "chickens with heads off" days. We were close, but not ready. So like locusts to a wheat field, a swarm of people were devouring the last minute details. Then, it rained. With rain, came worms, hundreds washing onto the entrance sidewalk. When I returned to the area, I found a manager, several department supervisors and a director outside with brooms, sweeping up worms. No one asked them to sweep worms. But, with guests arriving shortly and no one else available, they found brooms and started sweeping. Is a Career Change on Your Horizon? Making a career change is nothing new in today's job market. Searching for Jobs Online Searching for jobs online is easier than ever, but also more confusing than ever. Any Internet user doing a job search online will find that they can choose from hundreds of national employment listing web sites and the numbers can often be staggering. When performing on online job search, it is a good idea to choose from an online employment classified web site that allows for regional searching. Localized searches can narrow down employment opportunities so that the job searcher doesn't have to search through hundreds or even thousands of posts in order to locate a handful of listings in an individual's local area. When performing an Internet job search, it is important to keep in mind that not all local employers will post job listings online, but they will post their openings in local newspapers. Playing from the Blue Tees: Women in the Federal Government Throughout the past decade, workplace diversity issues have allowed organizations to adjust their policies in response to the need for workplace equality in all aspects. As a result of the dynamic political, social and economic changes, some companies have willingly become more inclusive, integrating women, people of color, gays/lesbians, and individuals with disabilities into their workforce at all levels of their organizations. However, others have failed to make this paradigm shift. The Federal government has failed to see the benefits of a diverse workforce, which is evident by the lack of diversity of the people it serves. Research by the Center for Creative Leadership (2002), show women in business have been required to adapt to a well established hierarchal system built around the strengths of its majority of male players. As women have entered the workplace, they initially try to create only a modest variant in a male dominated workplace. Gender diversity could be very beneficial to the Federal government, causing greater creativity in group decision-making and improved task performance.
